Submission Guidelines

All manuscripts submitted to IJBNT must be original and unpublished works. Submissions should not be under consideration by another journal, publisher, or conference proceedings at the time of submission. Authors are expected to ensure that their work is free from plagiarism, copyright infringement, and any form of academic misconduct. If a manuscript has previously appeared in another form, such as a thesis chapter, conference presentation, preprint, or institutional repository, this should be clearly disclosed to the editors at the time of submission.

Research articles should normally range between 6,000 and 10,000 words, inclusive of footnotes and bibliography. Manuscripts exceeding this range may be considered only in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the editorial team. Authors should ensure that their work is concise, well-structured, and appropriate to the journal’s academic scope.

All submissions must follow either the SBL Handbook of Style (preferred for biblical and theological scholarship) or the Chicago Manual of Style, notes-bibliography format. Authors are responsible for ensuring consistency in citation style, accuracy of references, and completeness of bibliographic information.

Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.docx) and prepared in a professional academic style. The journal recommends using a 12-point standard font (Times New Roman), double-spacing, 1-inch margins, page numbering, and footnotes rather than endnotes. Text should be fully justified. When Greek, Hebrew, or other ancient languages are used, authors should employ Unicode fonts (such as the SBL font) to ensure compatibility and readability.

To facilitate anonymous peer review, the manuscript should contain no identifying information of the author(s).

Each article must include an abstract of 150 to 200 words summarizing the argument, methodology, and contribution of the study, together with four to six keywords that accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

All eligible submissions are subject to double-blind peer review, meaning that neither the author nor the reviewers know one another’s identities during the review process. Following review, the editors may issue one of several decisions: acceptance, acceptance subject to minor revisions, revise and resubmit, or rejection. The journal seeks to maintain both scholarly rigor and constructive engagement throughout the review process.

Submissions should be written in clear and polished academic English. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their manuscripts reviewed by a qualified editor or proofreader before submission.

Authors are expected to observe the highest standards of academic ethics. This includes accurate citation of all sources, avoidance of plagiarism, honesty in presenting evidence, disclosure of conflicts of interest, and obtaining permission when copyrighted materials are reproduced.

Unless otherwise specified, authors retain copyright in their work while granting the journal the right of first publication. Any open-access licensing arrangements will be communicated upon acceptance.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the journal’s submission portal or designated editorial email address. A complete submission normally includes creating an account and entering bio information, uploading an abstract, and an anonymized manuscript.

The journal aims to provide an initial editorial response within four to eight weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the volume of submissions. The editors especially welcome thoughtful and rigorous scholarship from both established and emerging scholars, particularly those who contribute to the expanding conversation of the Global South.

About the journal

The International Journal of Biblical Theology and Mission was founded on the vision of fostering critical, constructive, and interdisciplinary scholarship. The articles and reviews published by the IJBTM conform to the historical grammatical tradition of Biblical interpretation, which accepts the divine inspiration of Scripture and aims to discover the original meaning of a biblical author. The journal aims to provide a balanced interpretation of Scripture for students, teachers, and the general church membership.
